From early childhood I've always been interested in art, crafts and needlework.
After winning some awards in my school years I was totally hooked. Growing up in 1950's Daytona Beach, FL, I had hopes of getting an art degree at Florida State University, but that didn't happen.
I married Dick Carter, raised two sons and moved around the country where my husband's job took us, but always found a way to use my art skills. When we retired in 1992 to Lake Helen, FL I decided to try quilting.
I'd seen a quilted wall hanging and was intrigued. Going to quilting class to learn the basics was the next step. I soon discovered that sewing squares and triangles together wasn't for me - applique is for me! Appliqued art quilts have become my passion. I love whimsy and find it gratifying when one of my quilts brings a smile. Having a cartoonist for a brother hasn't hurt. At times he allows me to design quilts using his cartoons.
Since 1993 I've been a member of the Nimble Fingers Quilters' Guild. This group supports many outreach projects, Camp Begin Again and The Home of the Brave Quilts being two of them.
I've won several awards at the Jacksonville Quilt Show, The Central Florida Quilters Guild Show held in Orlando, The Volusia County Fair in Deland, Florida and The Sandwich Fair in Illinois. I've also shown a quilt at the Harris House in New Smyrna Beach, FL and at Stetson University in Deland, FL. My guild has honored me with several ribbons and I've sold a few quilts.
Being chosen as a Participating Artist with Tangerine Pond Artists' Collective is very rewarding! As long as I can hold a needle and the eyes don't give out I'll keep at it.
Carole was also featured as one of our Guest Artists in 2007. Click here to see that work.

"Your most unforgettable person, place or thing" Nimble Fingers Quilt Challenge February, 2003 Butterflies and WatermelonDedicated to my Dad - Robert S. BogartWhen I was about 5 years old my Dad took the family on a picnic. He took me by the hand and said he wanted to show me something. Near-by there were discarded slices of watermelon on the ground covered with hundreds of butterflies. It is my first memory of seeing something beautiful, thanks to my Dad. When I was 18 he died at age 43 of complications from diabetes. Carole B. Carter Lake Helen, Florida |
